Springfield, Jacksonville '20
This is part of Malcolm Jackson's collection, Across the Bridge, a series of photographs taken in Jacksonville, Florida between 2016-2021. It is an examination of the lives and social health of the residents living on the city's North and East sides. This area, north of the Main Street Bridge, is often portrayed as a notoriously dangerous part of town, when the reality is residents are not given resources to help create better living conditions in their community.
"This series touches on that idea and gives us a chance to take pride in our neighborhoods while examining the social constructs that exist within these communities. The hope is that by shedding a light on these facets of Jacksonville we can better the health of our community; not just on a physical level, but mental and social levels as well."
