Billie McCray

Billie McCray is a self-taught fabric artist based in American Beach on Amelia Island, Florida. McCray identifies as an improvisational artist with her work evolving based on daily experiences, rather than a fixed idea. When creating her wall hangings, quilts, and other fiber pieces, she begins by sketching her envisioned designs, which often transform at the machine during the assembly process. Embracing the cultural and regional history of quilts, McCray continues the tradition of her ancestors by repurposing and recycling materials.
